"Take the Signs Down" Campaign

"Take the Signs Down"

Letter from the Pastor

Dear Shiloh Family:

We are “Taking Down the Signs”. That is the name of our new campaign to address the condemnations that have been placed on our six vacant properties on 9th Street ad on 8th and Q. We must do three things to the properties, make them sanitary, put 2˝ inch ply board over all the doors and windows, and replace the roofs on several of the properties.

With today’s prices just these repairs will be expensive. Our goal for the campaign will be to raise $100,000. Our timetable is to complete the drive by July 1. That only gives us three weeks, so we must move quickly.

Deacons Constance Tate and Janice Bowden are the chairs and co-chairs respectively. The funds raised will be kept completely separate from other offerings. All proceeds will be used for property repair only.

Each adult is asked to contribute $1,000.00. All children under 18 are asked for $100.00. These gifts will be over and above our tithes. Long term goals for the properties were shared at the special church meeting held on June 13th. We plan to do affordable housing for seniors, educational classroom space and programmatic outreach space. We will share more of the long range plans as they are firmed up. The immediate goal is to take down the signs. Some may ask why we don’t use the monies we have acquired from other property sales. The answer is these monies will be needed to cover soft costs, architects, etc. As we move forward with our development plans we must spend those funds judiciously.

In spite of where we may stand on other church issues, let’s come together in the Spirit of Christ and get this done. No contribution is too large or too small. We need everyone to join is this effort. May God Bless and Keep our wonderful Shiloh family.

Yours in Christ,

Wallace Charles Smith, D.Min.
