Pastor's Pen

Once again, we are honored and privileged to have Chaplain Barry Black as our guest speaker for our Veterans Day observance.  Chaplain Black is a man of many accomplishments as can be seen from reading his biographical information in today’s Spirit.  But we know him also as a truly dedicated man of God and a spirit-filled preacher.  We look forward to the words that God has given him to bring to us today.

On this second Sunday in November, we congratulate  our nurses and our veterans on this their annual observances.

Over the years, our nurses have worked tirelessly to ensure the well-being and health of our congregation.  They do this during our traditional worship services and at times of grief and distress, such as funerals.  They are always there to support families and provide a comforting presence in difficult times.  Much of their work is done with little fanfare or recognition.  They truly exist to serve, not to be seen.  We thank God for them and commend them for their faithful and dedicated work.

Also, on this second Sunday we celebrate Veterans Day.  Each year the Veterans Day Committee develops a moving and spiritual service to acknowledge our church’s gratitude to God for the men and women who risked and sometimes sacrificed  their lives protecting our nation's freedom.

Thank you can seem like such a small word but we mean it sincerely.  Our deepest gratitude goes to all who served in any of the military units, and in any of the many wars we have fought.  Whether land, air or sea, our veterans deserve our respect and commendation for the overwhelmingly important commitments they have made to God and to country.
