Pastor's Pen

Let me list just a portion of Shiloh’s praise report for the beginning of the Fall season. The Shiloh family has been blessed in so many ways.  God continues to provide inspiring and uplifting worship experiences.  Everyone with whom I have spoken has commented on the wonderful, spirit-filled music offered by all our choirs.  Throughout the summer they rose to exceptional heights and pointed our congregation to some of the finest worship services in recent memory.  To God be the glory.

We can never say enough about the incredible blessing of the Take the Signs Down campaign.  We established a large goal and the proceeds more than doubled what we expected.  The work on the vacant properties is nearly completed and already the city has lifted the condemnations from several of the houses.  Praise God from whom all blessings flow.

On the first Sunday of this month Deacon Charles Hall reported that 11 people were accepted into membership for the months of August and September.  God continues to send wonderfully dedicated and committed people to join our fellowship.

Beginning with the Fall New Members Class, I have taken the responsibility of doing much of the teaching of the new members.  I can report that this class is one of the most gifted and enthusiastic groups with which I have worked.  Praise God for continuing to grow and develop our membership.

This weekend I joined with the youth of Shiloh for their Fall retreat.  Our youth are serious about their discipleship and are hungry to learn more about what it means to give one’s life totally to Christ.  As newspaper reports shout out the gun violence, AIDS epidemics and drug horrors, our youth model lives committed and dedicated to Christ.  Thanks be to God.

Almost every week a highlight of our services is the moment in our worship when we sing Happy Birthday to one of our 80 plus elders.  To see them beam encourages us all that contrary to the words of the Roman poet Seneca, age need not be the downward slope.  For our marvelously talented elders, we give God glory, honor and praise.

We know that we have many challenges, but this praise report indicates that Shiloh is on  the move, going upward and onward.  For that we give God thanks.  Hallelujah!
