Message From Pastor Smith Title

Sunday, March 4, 2007

We are pleased to welcome the Robert Dando as our guest speaker for the 7:45 a.m. service.  Reverend Dando has served as a pastor in England for a number of years and is now Assistant to the Reverend David Coffey, General Secretary of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and President of the Baptist World Alliance.  We look forward to the words that God will speak to us through Reverend Dando.

Sunday, March 18th will be our annual Victory Plus March. Over the years, our marches have been times of faithfulness and sacrifice. With these monies we have met our obligations to pay down our debt on the beautiful sanctuary God blessed us to build.

Many of us remember how much anxiety we carried into the building of our facility. The cost overruns due to change orders that were largely not our fault, had led us to a place where completing the building was in jeopardy. Riggs Bank would not extend any more credit to cover the additional costs. We prayed, and God answered our prayers. The American Baptist Convention extended us a supplementary loan and we were able to complete the process. This was nine years ago.

There were some who said we would never pay back our obligation and the bank would soon possess the church building.  Nothing could have been further from the truth. Through the faith and sacrifice of this wonderful congregation, we have never missed a mortgage payment and each year we have made advance payments on the debt. God is so good!

As we approach this Victory Plus Sunday, let us continue to build on the faithfulness of those who have gone before us. Many, who gave of themselves in these marches, are no longer with us. There is a great cloud of witnesses who cheer us from the banisters of glory. They are telling us to, ûWalk together children and donût get weary. There is a great camp meeting in the Promised Landû. The Lord has not brought us this far to fail us or forsake us. The Lord blessed us to complete this great work, in spite of the difficult obstacles and unanticipated escalation of prices. Some may continue to think we will not succeed. However, those of us who have captured the vision will march onward.

Bring your sacrificial gifts on March 18, and letûs witness one of our best Victory Marches ever.

OUR PURPOSE

Building the Village by Caring

Concept: Our pastor, the Reverend Wallace Charles Smith, envisions a holistic Ministry of Building by Caring, which includes a 3-tier approach - Care for Ourselves (spiritually), Care for Our Relations (family, friends and members), and Care for Our Community (outreach).  In building our capacity to care we will also create an atmosphere that will increase our church's membership, winning more souls to Christ; they will know we are Christians by our love;.
