On this HBCU Sunday,
we welcome to our pulpit the Reverend Jeremiah A. Wright,
Jr., Senior Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in
Chicago, IL. Detailed biographical information is
found in today's SHILOH Spirit. We look forward to
receiving the message that God has laid on his
heart to bring to us today.
In the last several years, our HBCU Council has done an
outstanding job of raising funds and increasing our
congregation's awareness and support of historically
Black colleges and universities. In an essay in The
Covenant, edited by Tavis Smiley, Edmund W. Gordon
said, "Without question, education is the key to
progress and prosperity in the United States today.
Whether fair or not, educational opportunity and academic
achievement are directly tied to the social divisions
associated with race, ethnicity, gender, first
language and social class."
Black colleges and universities have been the key to
success for some of the nation's most talented and
effective leaders in all walks of life. The sciences, the
political arena, the legal profession, medicine,
entrepreneurial pursuits and various and sundry
professions have been led by products of these schools.
What makes HBCUs special is they not only shape
exceptionally gifted students, they also mentor
those who need more nurturing and encouragement. They
don't just provide information; they see their mission as
forming students to face the challenges of life in a
society where racism remains alive and well.
We salute all the hard working members of the HBCU
Council. With scant resources they have developed one of
Shiloh's signature ministries. We pray God's continued
blessings on their work.

OUR PURPOSE
Building the
Village by Caring
Concept: Our
pastor, the Reverend Wallace Charles Smith, envisions a
holistic Ministry of Building by Caring, which includes a
3-tier approach - Care for Ourselves
(spiritually), Care for Our Relations
(family, friends and members), and Care
for Our Community (outreach). In
building our capacity to care we will also create an
atmosphere that will increase our church's membership,
winning more souls to Christ; they will know we are
Christians by our love;.
