Rev. Desiré P. Grogan is a vibrant member of the ordained clergy
at the historic Shiloh Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Rev.
Grogan has been a member of Shiloh all of her life and, in 1992,
became the first woman to be ordained by the Shiloh congregation
since the Church's inception in 1863. Rev. Grogan ministers as
an anointed teacher and preacher of The Word of God and
exercises these gifts both within the Shiloh congregation as
well as in response to the call to minister in Churches across
denominational lines.
Rev. Grogan is a native Washingtonian who
received her formal education from the D.C. Public Schools.
She matriculated to the Boston University School of Fine
Arts, on full scholarship, where she received the Bachelor
of Music degree in 1974. She then matriculated to the
University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Library and
Information Science, where she, again on full scholarship,
received the Master of Library Science degree in 1975.
Upon accepting God's Call, in May, 1988, to
preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Rev. Grogan matriculated
to and graduated from the Howard University School of
Divinity, having earned the Master of Divinity degree
('89-'92). Her seminary education included several awards
of distinction: The Ford Foundation Field-Based Fellowship
('90-'91); The ); The ); The Nannie Helen Burroughs Scholar Award
('91-'92); The William O. Carrington Preacher of the Year
Award ('91-'92); and The National Dean's List, 15th Edition
('91-'92). Rev. Grogan was also the first seminary student
to receive The Patricia Roberts Harris Public Affairs Fellow
from Howard's School of Communications, under whose auspices
she served as a professional intern at the Library of
Congress (Summer '91). Following her seminary education,
Rev. Grogan was further distinguished within the Shiloh
congregation with the presentation of The Woman of The
Year Award in
1993.
In addition to serving as an Associate Minister
within the Shiloh congregation, Rev. Grogan is also the
Founder of Revelation Ministries,
so-named for her passionate and in-depth teaching on the
Book of the Revelation. To further her scholarship and her
ministry in this area, Rev. Grogan completed a pre-doctoral
Master’s degree in Semitics with the Dept. of Semitics and
Egyptian Languages in the School of Arts and Sciences at the
Catholic University of America in May 2005. She is actively
formulating her doctoral program in the area of a Biblical
exegetical approach to the study of the Book of the
Revelation that is accessible, not just to the scholar, but
also to the believer in the pew.
In summary, Rev. Grogan loves The Lord, is
committed to the teaching and preaching of God's Word, and
is zealous in her efforts to prepare the people of God for
the Second Coming of Jesus Christ!!!
